Let’s face it. Wigs are in right now. Everyone loves a quick and reliable style. Who wants to spend a bunch of money and time at the salon, when they can just style their own hair right in the comforts of their own home. Since wigs are so popular nowadays, many women are finding new products and new ways to lay their wigs. Iโ€™ll be sharing with you different products and step by step instructions on how to lay your wig to get that natural and flawless look every-time.

Step 1: Customization

  • Try on the wig and assess how it looks on you. Note what you like about it and any adjustments that need to be made.
  • Use a pair of tweezers to pluck the wig’s hairline for a more realistic appearance. This step is optional, as some wigs come pre-plucked.
  • If necessary, bleach the knots on the wig to eliminate any visible dotting on the scalp area. Apply a mixture of BW2 and Clairol professional Clairoxide to the lace, let it sit for 20 minutes, then wash it out using a gentle shampoo like Loreal Paris Ever Pure. Use the Coloring dyeing kit for easy application.
  • To avoid bleach, you can opt for concealer instead. Pro Conceal has shades for every complexion and it blends seamlessly.

Step 2: Prep your hair

  • Clean your natural hair with shampoo and warm water.
  • Ensure your hair is free of oils by using alcohol along the hairline.
  • Braid your hair neatly in small sections or try flat twists as an alternative. This step helps create a flat base for your wig.
  • Protect your hair by wearing a wig cap. Consider using the Lacewig grip cap if you prefer a glue-free method since it doesn’t require adhesive to hold your wig in place.

Step 3: Apply the adhesive

  • Now that you’re prepped and ready, apply the adhesive to the desired area.
  • Grab your blowdryer and select the cool setting to activate the adhesive. Repeat the process until the adhesive becomes sticky and then place the wig on your head making sure it’s properly aligned.
  • For those of you who don’t want to use adhesives, try a melting spray instead like the Ebin Wonder lace adhesive spray because it melts the lace and it sticks perfectly.

Step 4: Style the hair

  • One the wig is attached, style it to your liking.
  • I found the Elastic bands and wax stick kit on Amazon and it’s very convenient because it has the edge control, wax stick, elastic bands, and brushes so you don’t have to purchase them separately.
  • Place the elastic band on the hairline to lay the edges flat and use the wax stick for the roots to smooth out any flyaways.
  • Then, press the roots to create a sleek look. I use the Terviix electric hot comb to press the roots and it gives my wigs a flawless finish everytime.
